Awhile ago I was filling up bird feeders and noticed "my" male Pine Warbler
checking out the suet. If he stays with me again, it will be the third year in
a row that the presumed same bird has overwintered.
Interestingly, if this is the same individual, he starts singing in the pines
around the house each February, continues to stay on territory, sings, and
presumably nests during the spring and early summer, then becomes totally
silent all late summer and fall.
This fall during migration, I tried to find it several days when I had lots of
other warblers, just to add him to my day list, but I think I just heard a Pine
Warbler (presumably him) chipping way up in the trees on one occasion.
During the past month, I've wondered if he was still around, but just like last
year he suddenly appeared at the feeders as inclement weather arrived.
