Many years ago I saw one more on the yellow side of orange as I was
climbing Piestewa Peak (formerly Squaw Peak) in Phoenix.  I wasn't very
familiar with AZ species and was really stumped, standing there on the
trail paging through my bird book.  I didn't even know that House Finches
ever had such a coloration, but finally got it figured out.

True Orange-hued !! Great capture and thanks for the explanation on the
"color variation," and degree of rarity.

We observed and photographed an interesting House Finch in the yard today.
In place of the red feathers normally seen on males, this individual has
orange feathers that look peachey from certain angles. According to Ibird
Pro, this color variation is not common, but not super rare either.

The photos on the eBird list (below) are not in good focus because he kept
lurking behind tiny stalks that messed with auto-focus. You can still see
the unusual feather color though. Even the rump feathers are orange.
