Mark Monroe and I went to look for the Swallow-tailed Kite reported in eBird
yesterday from the vicinity of the Walmart between Beaver Dam and Hartford in
Ohio County. Mark had it in sight before we even parked! The bird moved around
the vicinity a lot during the hour or so that we were there. It got quite high
at times but would have always been in view from the north edge of the Walmart
parking lot. A few times it came down just over treetops, both east and west of
US 231. As reported earlier, it seems to prefer the grassy field and corn field
north of the Walmart. It helps to take along someone with keen eyes like Mark,
who typically was able to keep it in sight or refind it without too much
trouble.
