This afternoon, Giff Beaton and I birded along the Ohio River in Jefferson County. We had pretty much the same birds that have been present the past few days including the 4 Long-tailed Ducks between the I-65 and Big Four bridges on the Indiana side, plus at least 19 in the basin off Ashland Park, and 15-20 White-winged Scoters off Buckhead's/Kingfish. Other diving ducks are much reduced in number from a few weeks. There were also 3 White-winged Scoters back near Tumbleweed on the KY side. Later in the afternoon we also had a Red-necked Grebe back on the IN side just upstream from the Big-Four bridge. Just off the upstream end of Cox's Park were 3 more Long-tailed Ducks. We got a call about the Red-necked Grebe at Long Run Park, so we decided to run by there. We actually found TEN Red-necked Grebes on the lake there, plus TWELVE MORE on the lake at the entrance to Valhalla Golf Course (visible from US 60). Also, 2 White-winged Scoters were on the quarry lake on the west side of the Snyder Freeway just south of the Old Henry Road exit. Heard flyover Eastern Bluebirds two times; perhaps some that retreated south are moving back in? bpb, Louisville ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== When posting on BIRDKY, please close posts with your first and last name and your address (city or county). * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To post on BIRDKY, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the KOS website at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos/default.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the KOS Photo Page to view photos of birds recently sighted in Kentucky: http://www.flickr.com/groups/kentucky_ornithological_society/pool * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison.
