Has Mr. Ballance been asked if he would like signage erected to show where
people can go or rules of birding there. I’m sure there are enough
different club fund sources available that this could be accomplished.

Matt Stickel and I joined Clay Bliznick, Lyle and Edwin Bontrager, David
Roemer, and Rickey Shive at McElroy Lake yesterday evening. Light was nice,
although the 84 degrees and humidity was not a kind reminder of things to
come!
I think there were 13 species of shorebirds on the lake including 10
Willets, several Short-billed Dowitchers, two Black-bellied Plovers, and a
gorgeous Stilt Sandpiper. Lots of Leasts, Lesser Yellowlegs, and
Semipalmated Plovers. A few Greater Yellowlegs, Pecs, Spotties, Solitaries,
and Semi Sands. A few diving ducks continue to filter thru with Redhead,
both scaup, and Ruddy Duck represented. Also at least two Common Loons. A
Peregrine Falcon put everything up a couple of times before moving on. Just
after sunset, a few of us watched the exodus of some of the flocks
including the 10 Willets, which streaked off to the northwest.
Just a reminder that birders should *not* park along Mr. Ballance's
driveways. We were asked to specifically not do this. As with many other
spots, we bird there on private land thanks to the graciousness of a
friendly landowner. It is not our place to decide what is acceptable;
everyone has to abide by landowner directed conditions or you risk ruining
a great situation for everyone.
