Sorry Brainard about the Black-legged Kittiwake. I will have to look that one
up. But, good #s of many others: Wilson Snipe, Killdeer, Kestrel and Longspur.

for a number of years now, I covered the KY portion of the Reelfoot Lake CBC on
Saturday. I had 64 species without any really unexpected highlights. I *did*
kick up and got very nice looks at probably the same LeConte's Sparrow that
Mark Greene reported near Lake No. 9 about ten days ago. Otherwise, songbirds
were not found in great numbers and none of the kind of expected summer/migrant
lingerers (e.g., Orange-crowned Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Sedge Wren,
Lincoln's Sparrow, House Wren) could be found.
The Long Point Unit has been mostly mowed to the ground and is still recovering
from the fall drought, so I actually didn't see a SINGLE goose on the ground,
and the only ducks were about 100 Mallards and a handful of divers at the duck
banding blind. Came across only one flock of Lapland Longspurs with about 50
birds.
Before leaving, I heard about the juv. Black-legged Kittiwake that was found on
the lake, and felt fortunate to see it where it was refound before sunset.
Unfortunately, that joy of getting to see such a rare and beautiful bird took a
sudden turn into shock and dismay when an adult Bald Eagle zoomed down and
snatched it off the water . . . . :-( Consensus among birders was that the
kittiwake may not been in good health, so maybe it was going to die anyway, but
witnessing such an event was disturbing.
