For at least a week, a Killdeer that was fooled into thinking that spring had
arrived has been incubating eggs in a nest in our horse pasture. I have no
doubt that it will be a miracle if she is able to stay on the nest enough to
keep the eggs from getting too cold to eventually hatch. I have been making
every attempt to stay away from here so as not to push her off.
The cold temps have renewed activity at my feeders. Last week for the first
time all winter a Red-breasted Nuthatch began showing up and *two* Pine
Warblers have been coming to the suet feeders. A Fox Sparrow has also
reappeared.
