14 July 2011: I visited the KY 739 Transient Pond this morning for a brief period of birding. The water has dropped significantly since my last visit on 05 July and there is little water remaining. I estimate that the pond will be gone within a week, if not before. Missed today were both Black-necked Stilts and the pair of Ring-billed Ducks. Observed today were the following: * ~60 Mallards (of which about ~30 flew, ~20 ran into the surrounding corn and ~10 remained on the water), * 4 Wood Ducks, * 1 Lesser Scaup female (I found this bird to be odd for I have not noticed it previously and cannot imagine "migrating" here in July.), * ~50 Killdeer, * 2 Spotted Sandpipers, & * 4 Least Sandpipers. Other species noted in the area included Red-tailed Hawk, Mourning Dove, Horned Lark, Eastern Phoebe, American Robin, and Northern Cardinal. That concludes this report.
