Weekend birding activities at the KOS fall meeting at Henderson yielded reports of approximately 115 species, mostly in and near the Sauerheber Unit Sloughs Wildlife Management Area. Sat: American Bittern 2; Great Egret 1; Cattle Egret 1; all 9 regular dabbling ducks; Bald Eagle; King Rail 1; Virginia Rail 1; Sora 10-15; only a few shorebirds, most on drying slough nearby; Marsh Wren 6+; Sedge Wren 6+ (one group a probable family); 10 spp warblers; Dickcissel 1; Lincoln's Sparrow (several). Sun (including some additions): Bald Eagle 1; Merlin 1 (perched); Sora 2; Short-eared Owl 1; Marsh Wren 1; Lincoln's Sparrow 3. If I missed something anyone else considered a highlight, please chime in :o) Kudos to all the persistent participants of our Sat/Sun marshing. Copious rainfall this summer has resulted in an especially lush growth of wet-ground vegetation that made the walking/wading awfully difficult. Thanks is also extended to those individuals who helped to lead "sub-groups" off into the wilds of the WMA. bpb, Louisville brainard.palmer-ball AT mail.state.ky.us ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
