Today I visited Hart County to check on two recently reported Rufous Hummingbirds. My first stop was at Mitch Sturgeon's to attempt to document the band # of the adult female presumed to be "Whoopie" (who wintered at Mitch's last year and at Lew & Ruth Young's place south of Glasgow the winter before). I was successful only in obtaining some pics of the band; on one photo I *think* I can read two of the five numbers that would be consistent with her band. I'll have to return to get better pics. The next stop was only about 7 miles to the north-northeast at Mike Hensley's place where an adult male Rufous has been present for a few weeks. Mike has a cloud of Ruby-throateds there to get in the way, but we were successful in catching the Rufous, which did not have a band. It was banded and released. Mike let me post a few of his pics of the bird on the KOS Flickr site. Mike's bird is the FIFTH Rufous Hummingbird already documented in the state this fall. bpb, Louisville ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== When posting on BIRDKY, please close posts with your first and last name and your address (city or county). * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To post on BIRDKY, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the KOS website at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos/default.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the KOS Photo Page to view photos of birds recently sighted in Kentucky: http://www.flickr.com/groups/kentucky_ornithological_society/pool * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison.
