[birdky] RPT: Green River Lake & vicinity, 3/13/14, more R-n Grebes; not much else

Eddie Huber, Mary Yandell, and I birded around Green River Lake today.
Highlights were really only continuing Red-necked Grebes.
Larue County Sportsman's Lake: a few common waterfowl
Campbellsville City Lake: 3 Red-necked Grebes, a few common waterfowl
Green River Lake, Taylor Co.: 23 Red-necked Grebes (most of the birds were
scattered from above (north of) the campground to the vicinity of the dam with
NONE at Site 1 and only 1 off Smith Ridge boat ramp; biggest number (11) were
in between the state ramp near the campground and the state park marina; also
on this section of the lake were about 130 Horned Grebes (a few coming into
nice alternate plumage), and a few divers. Off Smith Ridge beach were 8
Red-breasted Mergansers and 6 Common Mergansers.
Green River Lake, Adair Co.: ONLY 2 Red-necked Grebes, both visible from the
Holmes Bend Marina; at the end of Corbin's Bend Road there were no RNGRs, but
13 Horned Grebes and a few ducks including 4 Northern Pintail.
From what others told me, I think that the areas of the lake where there were
no or only a few RNGRs was frozen pretty solid during late February/March 1st
when most of them showed up. It seems as though they have probably stayed on
the portions of the lake where they initially dropped in.
