I turned on my phone in bed this morning about 500 am and checked the weather
forecast for the day ... I thought something was wrong when the NWS web site
gave the temperature at Bowman Field in Louisville at EIGHT degrees .........
Alas, it was correct and I didn't really want to step out the door ... and for
just about every minute of the day I was ready to get back to my warm bed ... I
will finally return to that spot in just a few minutes.
Jeff Sole and I persevered through the day at Green River Lake; at one point my
car thermometer *said* the temp got up to 27, but we both highly doubted it. It
wouldn't have been so bad if it had not been for the blasted wind.
We had a good day, though, despite the fog lifting off the lake in the morning
and the all-day radiation waves over the water. I think we had 74 species.
Highlights included a White-winged Scoter off the dam and again (or a different
one) off the state park marina, 4 Common Loons, a few flocks of Sandhill Cranes
(many holding legs up in their belly feathers), a first-year Lesser
Black-backed Gull at the roost off the marina, all seven woodpeckers, a
Red-breasted Nuthatch, and 2 Pine Warblers.
