I finished my point counts around Cave Run today. The last one requires a boat or 2 hours walking so I chose the boat. After the count, we (Fred Busroe, Lin and Barry Whitley) went to check or the osprey nest on Buck Creek. On the way I spotted something in a dead tree in the Buck Creek cove. We were surprised when we found the tree had two nest with 5 young ones in each nest! (is 2 nest called a rookery?) We have had some active nest along the Beaver Creek wetland, but never on the lake itself. I got a few photos, I was excited. We went on to the ospry nest, but there did not seem to be any activity. Its right on the the marked channel leading to Longbow Marina. It does have lots of sticks, no white wash. We checked the eagle nest today and they have fledged...other highlights of the day include 5 immature eagles (seemed to be second year birds), a Caspian Tern and Brown Thrasher fledgling. A really good half day of bird watching! Evelyn Morgan Elliott County
