I saw the teal this morning, but it quickly disappeared behind a berm
straight out from the parking spot.

Carol Besse and I were fortunate to see the Cinnamon Teal at Swallow
Spring yesterday morning. Apparently the entire day it was playing hide and
seek in the various flooded tree lines and woodlots on the east side of the
pond.
We then visited an unnamed transient pond to the southwest along KY 695
(Cox Mill Road) that Joe Hall had been monitoring lately. There was a nice
assortment of waterfowl there, plus a nice shorebird mix for late March.
Lots of Pecs and a few yellowlegs, but 2 Dunlin and a Long-billed Dowitcher
were highlights. Also three Bald Eagles sparring overhead.
We ran by the J. Ferguson Road transient pond in Simpson County on our way
east and saw the imm. male Long-tailed Duck that Rickey Shive found there
the day before. It is in an interesting plumage with right rufous and black
back feathers coming in. It was essentially the ONLY duck on the single
body of water there!
Finally, we met Rickey Shive at McElroy Lake before heading home. The nice
assortment of waterfowl continues there but a flock of about 20 Pecs were
the only shorebirds. We did find a basic plumaged Eared Grebe diving in the
northern portion of the lake that I go some very marginal photos of.
