I joined Rickey Shive at McElroy Lake in southern Warren County this afternoon.
The lake is receding on its way to several large pools, but was alive with
swallows, waterfowl, and shorebirds. Highlights included *FOUR* Piping Plovers
in a small flock, a *gorgeous* Eared Grebe in alternate plumage, and an early
White-rumped Sandpiper. Other notables included 2 Caspian Terns, 2 Herring
Gulls, a Bald Eagle, an American Golden-Plover, and a few Semi Plovers.
Without significant rain, the lake will unfortunately last only a week or so
longer.
