I had an amazing number of purple finches at my feeder this weekend. I counted as many as 72 at one time. They were zipping and zapping so I tried really hard to be as accurate as I could be. The trees were full of Kool-aide dipped birds, or that is what they remind me of. I had lots of females, and a few just beginning to get the red tinge. Between purple finches, goldfinches and junco I had a yard full of birds. When I entered the data on GBBC, they ask if I was sure I'd seen that many. They were still here on Monday. I stopped at my Uncle's house that lives about 2 miles from me and he too has a good number of purple finches also. Anyone else have that many? Did anyone find a catbird this weekend? I saw one on Monday. Are they usually here this time of year? I looked back at some of my records and March was the earliest I had seen them? Also White throated sparrows are around in large number, but no fox sparrows.
