I have the fewest number of martins since I have had a martin house, only 3
pair. They are also sharing the building with a sparrow couple (apartment 4S).
I am glad to say there seems little tension in my diverse neighborhood. And
social distancing is being observed much better than at our neighbor’s house.

Subject: [birdky] Purple Martins hang out
For the 2nd day in a row, a pair of Purple Martins have spent part of the day
hanging out in the back yard near the hanging gourds. Sparrows are using 2 of
the gourds but there are plenty of vacancies. I don’t see the Martins even
checking out any of the individual gourds, just hanging out on the power line
by the gourds. I suppose they expect me to do something about the sparrows, but
slum lord that I am, I’ll probably let them work things out for themselves.
That’s probably why I never have any nesting martins.
