I’ve been seeing reports of swallow sightings, but for a number of reasons, I
just put my gourds back up right before that sideways rain a couple of days
ago. Nothing was damaged by the strong wind, but I somehow forgot to put in one
of the entrance hole pieces. Raising the pole with 8 gourds on it is enough
trouble that I elected to get a ladder high enough to pop in the door piece in
without lowering the pole again. I had to look directly overhead as I popped in
the missing piece. Just as I did so, a Purple Martin flew directly overhead.
Not much else of interest here except that this morning a pair of Blue-winged
Teals joined the 5 Canada Geese that are still hanging out at Middle Pond.
