I heard at least 2 Barn Owls vocalizing when I set out this morning. A short
way out from the house, I spotted one settling into the lot Red Oak. A Great
Blue Heron continued to hang out by back field pond as I approached to put out
a small seed packet. I’ve yet to see anything unusual back there and had zero
chance of seeing anything this morning, because several small calves decided to
inspect my offerings. I’ve not seen any owls in the vicinity of the stable box
for several days.
Something puzzling has occurred regarding my cattle lately. Two adults have
suffered wounds to an ear during the night. I can’t come up with any other
prime suspects beyond coyotes.
