Heard a Pileated this morning, 7 am, while having coffee on the patio. This is
as close to our house as have heard one. 200 to 250 ft. away.....Heard not
seen....It has been awhile since observed one on the farm, at least 800 feet
away from the house. I know where a couple of nest holes are located, but they
only use a nest one year, then peck out a new cavity. Looking fwd to winter
when we like to walk thru our woods, chigger and tick free....hope to inventory
largest trees this winter. At least several hundred acres of woods behind our
house, of which we own 30 acres of mature timber with many large white oak.
