Well, I don't know if I've just been unobservant or deaf or what all these
years, but yesterday evening I heard something I've never heard before:
Pied-billed Grebes calling loudly. I was going for a walk here at Kentucky Dam
Village, by the calm bay behind the lodge, and there were several pairs of
pied-billeds bobbing around near the shore. All of a sudden I started hearing
this loud, squeaky, repetitive noise I had never heard before, and it was them!
I looked it up on All About Birds, and it is the sound listed on their page as
the "Rattle Call." Is this common and I've just been unobservant before? Do
many of you hear them vocalizing like this? I would say a couple different
individuals were doing this, and it was really loud!
