I saw this for years right outside my old office in Frankfort. There were a LOT of turkey vultures and black vultures. In a nearby tall building there is a peregrine nest. They were wholly intolerant and would hit vultures hard...feather drop and wounds were not uncommon. --- Barry Nichols Senior Biologist Eco-Tech Consultants 11321 Decimal Drive Louisville, KY 40299 502.259.0470 office | 502.259.0473 fax | 502.468.4539 mobile bnichols@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx | http://www.ecotechinc.com/ http://www.linkedin.com/in/biologybarry/ -----Original Message----- From: birdky-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:birdky-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Lindsay, Colin Sent: Thursday, February 20, 2014 11:07 AM To: bm.davis@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx; birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [birdky] Re: Peregrine Falcon vs. Turkey Vulture, downtown Louisville Very interesting. I see turkey vultures, black vultures and peregrines at the same time quite often in the Louisville CBD, but I've never seen them interact. -----Original Message----- From: birdky-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:birdky-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Brian Davis Sent: Thursday, February 20, 2014 10:16 AM To: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [birdky] Peregrine Falcon vs. Turkey Vulture, downtown Louisville I just watched a Peregrine Falcon dive-bombing a poor Turkey Vulture over the UofL med school. It didn't look like any contact was made, but that falcon couldn't have picked a less maneuverable target! The vulture did its best to get out of the way, though.
