Driving up the final 75 ft. to the S-2 High Spot around 1605 pm we had 4
Harriers by the time we rolled to a stop. Gradually we picked up 5 more over
the next 20-30 minutes. Pretty active Harriers as they can fly fast as well as
twist and dive suddenly to the ground. Mostly they seem to fly together in
groups of 3 and 4 interacting like Harriers. Near the end of the late afternoon
we observed 3 Short-eared Owls, but none were very close. Thanks to Jessica,
Teresa and Steve Graham for bringing their scope for good looks at the Owls.
Teresa spotted a White Crown Sparrow in the plum ticket right beside us. It was
fun to talk about Christmas counts and distant places to bird, including
central Texas for the Golden-Cheeked Warbler, but none of those were spotted at
S-2 this afternoon.
