Hello, I am very new to KY and the list.
I filled out the Otter Creek survey but obviously as a birder Im a more
'passive' activity type
individual than 'active' activity type and elaborated as much. Although
everyone has a right to
a new Otter Creek I always lament when the loud sports people come en
masse.
I'll wait to pass judgement though.
In Florida, I had to go to great lengths to attract the male and female
Cardinals that I saw in
the tree across the street from my house. Very small they were, but two
gorgeous specimens...
Here in my new home in KY, I get about 30 a day, at least !! Big, fat,
country 1/4 pounders !!! I'm in
Cardinal heaven !!! Yesterday, at around 6:00 I saw the strangest ritual. A
BIG mottled male and
female were around a dried up sunflower head I have on my porch away from
other bird food.
The female squatted down did this crazy thing with just the tips of her
wings were she beat them
so fast it looked hummingbird'ish, the big male would in turn, take a dried
sunflower from the
pod, and put it in her mouth with his beak. My Wife and I watched this
ritual for about 15 minutes.
Really, really neat to observe.

Regards,
LM in Louisville.
