For those of you who are KOS members, you will soon be receiving the fall
copy of The Warbler with an invitation to renew your membership for next
year. Now, for the first time, KOS members can join and renew online, using
a secure Paypal button. You do not have to have a Paypal account to do this,
the process lets you bypass them if you want to. There is a button on the
bottom of the home page to get you started, at http://birdky.org/index.html.
Also, KOS has several worthy causes that we fund with donations. The Anne
Stamm Fund supports environmental education projects directly aimed at
children; the Burt Monroe, Jr. Fund helps fund ornithological research in
Kentucky; and the Virginia and Wendell Kingsolver Fund sponsors birders aged
13 - 18 to attend summer birding camps. More details about these programs,
along with opportunities to either donate or apply for funds, can be found

For you folks who are not KOS members, we would love to have you. Our group
is a mix of beginners, casual birders, experienced birders, and experts.
What we have in common is our love of birds. Whether or not you are a
member, you are always welcome to come to our spring and fall meetings.
These Friday - Sunday affairs combine good field trips, great speakers, and
a chance to devote the weekend to birding with like-minded, nature-loving

One more item, for those of you still reading. There will be dozens of
Christmas Bird Counts going on around the state, between mid-December and
the first week in January. Most groups are very happy to have new birders
