I left my scope at home today because I wanted a morning off from carrying things on my shoulder. And because I wanted to see what my new camera could do by itself. I didn't think higher magnification than 16X would be useful in a hand held camera, so I bought a Canon PowerShot SX 160. Wound up using the digital zoom on most shots, which does nothing more than crop the 16X view. By the time I cropped them again in iPhoto they were pretty grainy, but I was able to document everything I saw at 739 Pond today and get a few shots I couldn't have gotten with my cool pix & scope. About the same set of shorebirds were there as the last time I went - Killdeer, Pectoral Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Spotted Sandpiper, Lesser Yellowlegs and Stilt Sandpiper. Waders - Great Egret & Green Heron. Flushed a Northern Harrier a few few in front of me but did not capture it until it was far away. Spotted Sandpiper here plus several others to the left in my photostream - http://www.flickr.com/photos/57339816@N08/9671902613/in/photostream/ Frank Lyne frank@xxxxxxxxxxx - near Dot in Logan County, KY ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== When posting on BIRDKY, please close posts with your first and last name and your address (city or county). * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To post on BIRDKY, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the KOS website at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos/default.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the KOS Photo Page to view photos of birds recently sighted in Kentucky: http://www.flickr.com/groups/kentucky_ornithological_society/pool * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison.
