The last two nights a very musical bird has been singing outside my window. It sounds as though he's running through his repertoire. At first I thought it was a mockingbird because each songs was so distinctly different and he just ran from one to the next. I spotted him in a tree but the problem is this. I only hear him when there is only a finger of light left in the sky so the possibility for identification is next to nil. The bird is small..around sparrow sized or possibly a pinch larger. He doesn't seem to be brightly colored but it's pretty dark even with binoculars. It's hard to see any identifiable markings although it looks as though he may have a small crest on his head like a cardinal has. I live in Florence, KY which is about 16 miles from Cincinnati. Based on my very vague description of the bird, can anyone point me in some sort of direction as to what I should be looking for in terms of making an ID? Does this sound like a warbler? If so, any guesses as to which ones would be most common to this area? There are so many that I'm just not sure where to begin especially since I can't get a good look at him.
