For those planning to attend the Beckham Bird Club field trip on Saturday
at Big Oaks NWR, please note the following information from the refuge:
We have the Beckham Bird Club scheduled for a tour of Big Oaks National
Wildlife Refuge at 8:30 am on Saturday 23 September 2017.
A few points to remember:
Since the refuge is an old military proving ground, everyone must view the
20-minute safety briefing video and sign an Acknowledgement of Danger form.
There will be a $3.00 entry fee for everyone over the age of 15. We do
honor the federal America the Beautiful Passes which will waive the entry
fee for the card holder and up to three guests. A current federal Duck
Stamp will also waive the entry fee.
The Indiana Air National Guard operates a shooting range within the refuge.
Most of the refuge must be closed during some of these flights due to
potential hazards. While they currently do not have flights scheduled for 23
September, they will occasionally schedule last minute flights. Should this
happen, then your tour will have to be rescheduled. The Air Guard generally
gives us 24 hour advanced notice.
In the event of a cancellation, that information will be posted to these
listservs as soon as it is received.
