With a driving snow and no place to put my binoculars while cutting the ice for the cows, I didn't take any optics with me for today's first feeding. Soon spotted Jeeves with naked eye, then went on to the ponds. About 9:00, took more food, found a hoard of Grackles had emptied everything. With driving snow continuing, I had nothing this time but binoculars. Jeeves soon came out, did a wide hop around blackbird saturated Corn Rock, then flew right at me and landed beside Gourmet Rock. He joined numerous other birds on the ground getting seed scratched down from above. Stayed in view for several consecutive minutes, giving me my closest and longest unrecorded views of him ever. The food was soon all gone and snow wasn't blowing in under the canopy, so I made a 3rd trip at about 10:00, this time bringing scope, camera, an entire coffee can of corn for the Grackles and about half that much safflowers for Gourmet Rock. Jeeves came out again and again, using the roses I had placed along the right hand side for cover and seldom staying in one spot long enough to train scope and prepare camera. Managed only a few shots, mostly ruined by intervening rose stems. Made a 4th and a 5th trip this afternoon, using maybe a couple of gallons of seed and taking 16x camera instead of scope. Several more nearby appearances, but no decent shots. Besides the one close but poor picture of Jeeves, I added another White-crowned Sparrow, a couple of Lapland Longspurs, normally invisible but easily spotted on today's snow covered ground, and a Rusty Blackbird in the yard. https://www.flickr.com/photos/123438032@N04/ Frank Lyne frank@xxxxxxxxxxx - near Dot in Logan County, KY ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============= When posting on BIRDKY, please close posts with your first and last name and your address (city or county). * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To post on BIRDKY, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the KOS website at http://www.birdky.org * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the KOS Photo Page to view photos of birds recently sighted in Kentucky: http://www.flickr.com/groups/kentucky_ornithological_society/pool * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison.
