When I was a kids I used a very unique voice to call my cat. “Our” mockingbird
mimicked me perfectly.

Please excuse or ignore my random anecdote, but the mimicry ability of
mockingbirds never ceases to amaze me. I have a particularly talented
mockingbird who has taken up residence in my yard for the season, and he has
learned to mimic a brown thrasher who has also been hanging around. He
performs nearly the entire thrasher repertoire, and does it quite well. He
also does a mean white-eyed video and a towhee song that is good enough to
perhaps even fool an actual towhee.
To add something of a report, I stopped by KY Dam yesterday evening. Still
not much activity, but did have some waders hanging out on the dam railings
watching the Asian carp jumping below: 18 great blue herons, 1 great egret,
and 2 black crowned night-herons. Also still lots of osprey.
