My usual birding routine this time of year is to do a farm walkabout early
before I start stripping tobacco. My sightings have been meager, with some days
producing only a few Mockingbirds, Blue Jays, Meadowlarks, doves and Cardinals.
This morning was slightly ahead of average with my FOS Palm Warbler and a
couple of late passing Rough-winged Swallows. My new dog, Bridge, may have
something to do with my extended poor run of birding luck. He sees everything I
see, sees it first, and often gives chase. To my knowledge, he's never killed a
single living creature, but I have seen him use his nose to push dirt over a
wooly worm and a toad. The toad dug its way out later.
