The first time I saw Mrs. Mallard fly up from the corner of my little habitat
area by pond, I simply thought she was scouting for a place to nest. When she
flew up from the exact same spot yesterday morning, I peeped over the fence and
saw that she had already made a nest at the base of a cedar tree and had laid 4
eggs. I will have to reroute my morning walkabout to avoid disturbing her.
I haven't attempted a wren census here after seeing the missing wren
post, but I did hear shop wren singing yesterday morning and saw it messing
about on my work table. It frequently leaves little gifts on my carving in
progress.
Jeeves has finished out the month of March here. April 8 will be his 4
month anniversary.
