Arrived this afternoon, checked the area out, 5 birds later we had a---
KIRTLAND Warbler. A Male has been in the same 15 ft x 15 ft brushy area for 2
days. Located on the beach of Lake Erie, 500 ft from the west end of the main
Magee Marsh parking lot.
Earlier Baltimore O. and Prairie W. were highlites, in the open for a long
time. The Prairie as close as 10 ft at eye level. The Kirtland as close as 10
to 15 ft. The Balti further away, around 40-50 ft. and 30-40 ft. up in a tree.
The festival has been ongoing since Friday with 31 Warblers recorded and 5 not
observed so far.
1,200 or more birders registered. 90,000, they say attracted to the area
because of the birds.
But, not crowded. When we arrived at the main MM parking lot at 5:30 pm the lot
was only 1/3 full.
A known cross bill nest is not far away. Two Bald Eagle active nests in the
parking lot. Adults with growing chicks.
This is 5 hours due north of Louisville.
