Mille,
Many of us have voiced our opinions, including myself, about this subject to
the Courier Journal’s editor, and the journalist of the first article Sarah
Ladd. I know I have not been contacted as of today, and have seen no effort to
reach out about the original article and some of its misleading information. I
honestly do not think I will be contacted at this point in regards to this
matter. I’m not sure if others were contacted or not.
This new article about the proposed legislation in Indiana is new information,
fueled in my eyes by the original article by Sarah Ladd and a long existing
hatred for a beneficial species.

Unfortunately, The majority of the people in this world could care less about
the environment and nature. And subscriptions to all papers are so far down (I
don’t know who reads all the ads that are published), so how many are reading
these articles? My question is why have there not been letters to the editor
or rebuttals by naturalists or prominent birders on this list. Anyone who
protests on this list or other social media sites is just preaching to the
choir. I myself am sure not knowledgeable to do that.

It’s sad that a formerly venerable newspaper like the Courier Journal would
resort to fictional sensationalism in a vain attempt to sell newspapers. By 10
or 15 years ago the Courier Journal had shrunk to a shadow of its former self.
Now it seems the’ve gone from merely irrelevant to detrimental.
As for this article spurring an onslaught of vulture murders, probably not. The
sort of farmer who would shoot a vulture wouldn’t be concerned about the
legality of it to begin with. I know a farmer who aims to shoot a Great Blue
Heron for “stealing” fish from her pond. She never takes off any time to go
fishing, so how much time is she going to spend gunning for a heron? (She calls
them cranes.)
