Limpkins have one of the loudest "sharp piercing," cries. A bird you do not
want on your roof at 3 am well before daylight. I have heard several birders in
south Florida complain about the noise in their neighborhood. Limpkins are
fairly common at Green Caye, Wacodahatchie and Loxahatchee, and up to the
Titusville area. When you hear a Limpkin, you will not forget, as you can hear
all across the refuge. I once found myself very close to a nest with 7 chicks
at Loxahatchee where in the past Limpkin numbers have been high, even in the
parking lot next to the Everglades, at daylight.
