Our gang and White-crowned Sparrows disappeared overnight Saturday night but
Debby got a photo of one hanging around the feeders, yesterday. I am guessing
that, if she listened closely, it was peeping with a very southern accent.
I also spotted a Harrier for the first time since April 25. It was low over
the southeast fields where we see them all winter. It was being relentlessly
harassed by Red- winged Blackbirds as it passed from territory to territory, on
its way across the heading grain field.
We have also proven once again, that you can magically make something happen by
writing something about it not happening:-). As of Sunday, we had seen no
Rose-breasted Grosbeaks around the feeders. By Monday, there were at least
three and, yesterday morning, there were five of them, as soon as it was light
enough to see.
It has been very warblery here, since the weekend. One of the Waterthrushes
was skulking in the thicket, last evening, but we will never know which one.
