As of yesterday afternoon, 2 young Martins continued to peep out of a gourd and
adults frequently fed them. This morning I heard very little chattering. I
could still see one head peeping out but no adults seemed to be around.
Although my main focus was on my carving in progress, I would step outside
whenever I noticed a change in the chattering. At about 9:00 A.M. I heard
chattering that sounded as if it was coming from beyond the gourds, so I
stepped outside. One individual was circling overhead and I saw no head peeping
out of the box. Did the adults decide that junior was big enough to fly and
simply force its decision to fly by not returning? Hard to get definitive
answers to questions posed to Martins.
