Labor Day weekend is my second most dreaded weekend to bird around KY Lake.
Lake levels are now good for shorebirds so I made the effort that last few days.
Jonathan creek offered a few new birds including Buff-breasted, Stilt, Lesser
Yellowlegs and Least sandpipers.
Crappie Hollow has been more difficult to access shorebirds but the waders have
made up for it. Impressive numbers of Great, Snowy and Cattle Egrets, Little
Blue, Great Blue and Green Herons added to the mix.
Caspian terns with their young are becoming a common site along with many
Forster’s tern and one juvenile Common tern today.
Blue-winged teal are numerous.
Happy Labor Day, Covid has no slowed boat or camper traffic.
