Eighteen observers participated on the Mammoth Cave National Park field trip
this past Sunday, May 4th. A total of 76 bird species were seen during the
trip, with twenty-four species of warblers the highlight. Blue-winged
Warblers were viewed singing on their nesting territories through a scope at
"wandering woods". Prairie Warblers were also observed here in numbers. A
Gray-cheeked Thrush was seen when leaving this area. Near the lodge area,
nice flocks of warblers including beautiful male Cape May and Bay-breasted
Warblers were viewed. Both Summer and Scarlet Tanagers were observed.
Thank you to all who attended. It was a great day to be alive.
