I get my seed from Lewis Seed Co, the wholesaler in Louisville. They told me
when I bought the last bag that it really had gone up. Cannot remember what I
paid for it. Their thistle seed is also cheaper. We are getting ready to head
West and I was looking forward to seeing the huge sunflower fields in Nebraska
and the Dakotas but probably going to be too late this year. That is a
spectacular sight... Millie Farmer

Not sure how many folks have paid attention to sunflower seed prices, but 50
pound bags are currently going for $30, an all time record by far!!!!
The 2011 crop will hopefully be good and push this back down some, but with
the weird weather of 2011, it might be an expensive winter for bird feeding.
The futures for sunflowers should be set during October when the 2011 crop
quantity/quality is assessed.
If anyone finds a source for "cheap" seed in coming weeks, please pass it
along to the listserv.
