I believe this list is actually the result of the nor'easter that formed off
the New England coast the day before. The strong east and northeast winds blew
birds that normally stay *east* of Cape Cod as they migrate south this time of
year into Cape Cod Bay. As the birds continue south to the southern end of the
bay, they circle around and are actually seen passing *north* on this
west-facing shoreline as they make their way back to Race Point at the northern
tip of Cape Cod. There they move out east and resume their southward journey. I
birded this area several years ago on Thanksgiving weekend and it was truly a
spectacular, if not frigidly cold!, day of birding!
