I saw and photographed a ruby-throated hummingbird actually feeding on grape
jelly I put out for the orioles today. At first I thought it might be eating
small gnats and insects the jelly attracts, but after watching it continuing to
return time after time to the jelly, I photographed it sticking its beak to the
jelly several times each visit. I wonder how the sugar ratio of grape jelly
compares to the sugar water we make for our hummingbird feeders and flowers in
our gardens?
