I was wondering if any of you could help me with a question.
I have two bird boxes in my backyard field about 20 yards apart and in plain
sight of each other. A pair of house wrens have been nesting in one. About a
week and a half ago when the young were getting noticeably bigger, a pair of
house wrens (?the same or different) began building a nest in the second,
nearby box. The young of the first nest have just fledged. I checked on the
nest in the second box and there are already a couple eggs in it.
Would these have been the same adult wrens with two active nests at a time? Or
would two separate pairs of wrens tolerate being so close to each other?
I can’t say I’ve been super observant of exactly how many adults I’ve seen, but
I’d favor there being only 2. That’s my guess.
