Moments after I stepped outside this morning at a little before 6:30, I heard a
Horned Owl calling. Didn’t sound very far away, but I couldn’t spot it. Later
on, as I was returning to the house after the morning cattle check, both
Kestrels were sitting side by side atop a power pole. By the time I got my
camera out, one had moved down to the wire, but still near the pole.
If anyone feels able to possibly identify an owl species from an image of a
breast feather, I can email you an image. My thinking upon first seeing the 2
nearly identical feathers was that they came from a Barred Owl. Hearing the
Horned Owl is making me want to consider the identity of the feathers more
carefully if possible.
