One of the ducks I reported this morning isn’t a Hooded Merganser. It’s a male
Green-winged Teal. Thank you Brainard for catching that. I was pretty hasty
making that post. The Teal is on the left in the first picture with the female
merganser out of sight. Teal still on left in middle picture with female behind
one of the males. Teal in middle in third picture with female merganser in
front of it. I amended my eBird species list.

Returning from my back field cattle check, I spotted several ducks on middle
pond. In the low early morning light, camera kept displaying a question mark,
like it couldn’t figure out what I was trying to focus on. Although I didn’t
walk directly toward the ducks and kept the Sun behind me on my oblique
approach, they took off with me still around 300 feet away. Despite low
light, poor camera performance and distant shots, their field marks were so
distinctive they had to be Hooded Mergansers. Poor pics with eBird report.
