Ventured into the primordial woods behind my house today for a short time to finish out the month's birding. I was rewarded with a wonderful view of a Hermit Thrush. It flew up into a tree about 20 feet in front of me and allowed me a nice long view. Then it dropped down to the leaf litter and started flipping over leaves looking for lunch. The experience was enhanced by raucous Red-headed Woodpeckers in the trees above. My goal was at least 50 species for the month and I made it to 58. It made for a nice month. -- Lloyd C.
