Its was a good day for birding. It’s always a good day when you get a Virginia
Rail.
And to get a Virginia Rail without a group marshing.
A dry cold front came through last night bringing clear skies and WNW winds
gusting this morning to 21 Knots.
51º rising to 60º. Sure didn’t feel like it with the wind.
I parked at the first obs. platform and walked down the Hardy Slough east dike,
then a loop around pools 3 & 4, and back the east dike to KY268.
Highlights:
FOS Virginia Rail (of course)
FOS Green Heron
2 Marsh Wrens
FOS 3 Soras
The really amazing occurrence was to have a Virginia Rail, a Sora, 2 Marsh
Wrens, and 3 Swamp Sparrows all in the same Cattail patch.
