Hello Folks,
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is interested in
wintering loggerhead shrike locations. Loggerhead shrikes are a rare bird here
in Kentucky and we could really use your help locating individuals again this
year, so please keep an eye out for this species when you are conducting your
normal birding activities. Loggerhead shrikes tend to be found in heavily
grazes pastures or grasslands, that have a shrubby component. Be sure to take a
close look at birds perching at the tops of posts, trees or utilities lines, as
these are some of the preferred perches for this rare species. You can also
look for impaled rodents, insects, and amphibians on barbed wire fencing or
thorny trees and shrubs, as these are an indication that a shrike maybe
occupying that area. If you see any shrikes or impalements please take a photo
and send it to me along with the location,
