Maybe I do have the dumb today, since consensus seems to be that my hawk is a
Northern Harrier. The thing is, I have seen many female and juvenile Northern
Harriers and this bird didn’t impress me on the scene as having the right shape
for a Harrier. Harriers have an owl-like face and it was my impression that
this bird had a buteo like face, and a more or less horizontal wing set. I
cropped my side on shot some more and added my only other shot, a face on view.
Its beak seems to point directly toward the viewer, not downward like a
Harrier. Is consensus still Harrier?
