Article in this week's Leader- News, Muhlenberg Co., Greenville, KY, ....says
437 acres recently added, (does not give present total of acres), but says
this, "the nation's newest refuge is expanding from initial 10 acres to planned
24,000 acres through acquisitions from willing sellers only."
This is forested wetland, near Henderson, and I believe, in the vicinity of the
confluence of the Green and Ohio Rivers.
This is a great deal as we do like our NWRs scattered around the USA. Other
than not having campgrounds, they are some of our favorite places. I have had a
guide to the NWRs since the mid 1990's, and have planned many trips, including
one for this summer to the north end of Great Salt Lake, and I hope thousands
of Avocets, if not too late and after the breeding season.
Now searching for more info, as road maps, on the Green River NWR, what is open
now, etc. Charley do you know?
Since this was JJ Audubon's home turf for years I think the refuge should be
called GR and JJA NWR, and while at it, add John Prine to the title as a memory
of what he did for the environment.
